Understanding the cost of sleep apnea treatment and what your insurance covers can make your path to better sleep simple and stress-free. At BreatheWell, we provide transparent pricing and insurance guidance for all treatments, including oral appliance therapy.
The cost of sleep apnea treatment can vary depending on individual needs and the type of therapy recommended. Because airway anatomy and treatment requirements differ from person to person, pricing is influenced by several clinical and care-related factors.
Type of therapy
Treatment cost depends on whether care involves oral appliance therapy, myofunctional therapy, breathing reeducation or a combination of approaches. Each therapy differs in scope, time commitment, and clinical resources.
Customization of the oral appliance
When oral appliance therapy is recommended, the level of customization, materials used, and number of fittings or adjustments required can affect cost. Custom-fitted devices are designed to optimize comfort, durability, and airway effectivenes
Complexity of your airway evaluation
More detailed airway and craniofacial assessments may be required for patients with complex anatomy or overlapping airway concerns. The depth of evaluation needed can influence overall treatment planning and cost.
Follow-up care and adjustments
Ongoing follow-up visits, appliance adjustments, and monitoring are essential to long-term treatment success. The extent of follow-up care required over time is an important component of overall treatment cost.
Patients receive a clear explanation of recommended treatment options and associated costs following their assessment, allowing for informed decision-making and individualized care planning.

The cost of oral appliance therapy varies based on individual clinical needs and the level of customization required. Because each appliance is designed specifically for the patient’s bite, jaw position, and airway anatomy, pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis following a comprehensive assessment.
Custom-fitted dental device
Oral appliances are custom fabricated to support effective airway positioning while maintaining comfort and long-term oral health. The design, materials, and degree of adjustment required can influence overall cost and are tailored to each individual.

Includes consultation, fitting, and adjustments
Pricing typically includes the initial consultation, appliance design and fitting, as well as follow-up visits for adjustments. These follow-ups are essential to ensure comfort, effectiveness, and long-term treatment success.
Long-term cost-effective compared to CPAP replacements
For appropriately selected patients, oral appliance therapy may offer a cost-effective long-term solution. Unlike CPAP therapy, which often involves ongoing equipment replacement and supply costs, oral appliances are durable and designed for extended use with proper care and maintenance.
Patients receive a detailed cost breakdown after their assessment, allowing for informed decisions and personalized treatment planning.

Many insurance plans provide partial coverage for oral appliance therapy when it is prescribed for the treatment of sleep apnea. Coverage levels vary by provider and plan, and eligibility is typically based on medical necessity and supporting documentation.
Steps to help maximize insurance coverage include:
Provide medical documentation or sleep study results
Insurance providers often require documentation confirming a diagnosis of sleep apnea. This may include a sleep study report, referral notes, or other medical records that support the need for treatment.
Submit a prescription for oral appliance therapy
A prescription or written recommendation from a qualified healthcare provider is commonly required to establish medical necessity for oral appliance therapy coverage.
Confirm coverage and co-pay with your insurance provider
Because coverage details differ between plans, patients are encouraged to confirm benefits, co-payments, and any applicable limitations directly with their insurance provider prior to treatment.
Assistance with insurance claims
Our team can help guide you through the insurance process by providing necessary documentation and supporting information to assist with claim submission and reduce out-of-pocket costs whenever possible.
Patients receive clear guidance throughout the process to help make insurance navigation as straightforward and manageable as possible.

Untreated sleep apnea can have significant short- and long-term effects on overall health and daily functioning. Repeated breathing interruptions during sleep place ongoing stress on the body and can contribute to a range of health concerns, including:
High blood pressure
Frequent drops in oxygen levels and sleep disruption can activate stress responses in the body, increasing the risk of developing or worsening hypertension.
Cardiovascular issues
Untreated sleep apnea has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular conditions, including heart disease, irregular heart rhythms, and stroke, due to repeated oxygen deprivation and strain on the heart.
Daytime fatigue and reduced productivity
Poor sleep quality often leads to excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, reduced work performance, and an increased risk of accidents.

My husband David was very impressed with the friendly, efficient and professional service he received from Dr Saleema Adatia and her staff.
I first met Dr. Adatia in the spring of 2014; I had recently moved back to Calgary and didn't have a dentist, so I decided to book a "meet and greet", based on her excellent online reviews. In that initial first visit she provided loads of information and treatment options for some work I'd been putting off... all delivered in a no-pressure, supportive way. I was impressed; she was so knowledgeable and professional and friendly, I booked an appt. to get the "work" done. I've seen her many times since and every time I receive the same first-rate, thorough, gentle care. She's a highly-skilled, wonderful dentist. And her staff are so welcoming and helpful.
Dr. Adatia and her staff are the greatest. I always feel comfortable with her which really says a lot for me. I have had terrible experiences as a youngster and because of that I was always very nervous in a dentists office. The staff in the front office always make me feel welcome and comfortable and then it just continues with Dr. Adatia and all her professional staff.
